16 4.1 | Dress Code
HANDS in Autism® follows the dress code of the Department of Psychiatry, within the IU School of Medicine. The dress code is as follows:
Employees should dress in a manner that is professional and appropriate to the type of work performed. Clothes and work shoes need to be clean, neat, and in good repair. Clothing should be free from wrinkles, soil, stains, odors, and in good repair. Inappropriate and unacceptable attire for volunteers include:
- Jeans or denim of any style or color
- Bare back, halter tops, tank tops, cleavage or midriff revealing styles
- Clothing or accessories bearing pictures or writing that states or implies nonprofessional, illegal, distasteful, or suggestive language/activities or which can be described as religious in nature
- Any clothing with advertising slogans on it
- Sweatshirts, overalls, and warm-ups of any material
- Any body-hugging clothing such as spandex leggings or tops
- Unprofessional footwear such as “crocs” or “flip-flops”
- Open-toed shoes are not permitted in areas with medical care of patients
- Certain positions may be provided with a HANDS in Autism® shirt. Students are expected to return these in good condition up completion of their time with HANDS.
*This policy may be superseded by site policies if the site has stricter guidelines.
