5 The 993 : 1993- 1997

The 993 generation of the 911 graced the world with its presence in 1993. The addition of integrated bumpers and a lower front section gave us the modern, sleeker design we see in subsequent 911s. Powertrain upgrades earned the 993 911 a strong reputation of reliability and dependability, not common attributes of performance-oriented vehicles. Handling performance was also greatly improved with the entirely new aluminum chassis through increased rigidity and reduced weight. The 993 generation also gifted us the 911 GT2, a hardcore enthusiasts car that was in every sense a street-legal racecar. The 911 GT2 was a stripped-down version of the 911 Turbo S with powertrain upgrades that was perfect for spirited driving on track or carving through canyons. Most notably to Porsche purists, the 993 was the last generation equipped with an air-cooled engine. [1]
