8 The 991 : 2012-2018

2012 ushered in the most technologically advanced generation of the 911 with the 991. Not only did the wizards in Porsche’s engineering department take the 991 911 to new performance heights, but significantly increased efficiency as well. Chassis and engine improvements, along with enhanced driver features and ergonomics, brought the 991 to all new levels of performance. Although engine displacement in both the Carrera and Carrera S was decreased, the addition of twin turbochargers to the new 3.0l flat six increased horsepower to 370 and 420, respectively, as well as decreasing fuel consumption by nearly 12%. Other breakthrough designs, such as rear axle steering and enhanced Porsche Active Steering Management, coupled with the increased power output and efficiency, raised the benchmark once again for the sports car industry. ^[1]
