7 The 997 : 2005-2011

When the 997 911 was introduced in 2005, Porsche fans rejoiced. Porsche ditched the polarizing “fried egg” headlights and returned to the classic oval style headlight with a separate turn signal. Changes for the 997 generation were not only cosmetic, significant performance enhancements were also integrated. The new 3.6l flat six in the standard 911 Carrera and the new 3.8l flat six in the 911 Carrera S produced 325hp and 355hp, respectively. The chassis was also reworked to feature Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), an option to electronically adjust the suspension to accommodate the driver’s personal preferences. In 2008, Porsche performed a mid-cycle upgrade, dubbed the 997.2, that included direct injection to the engine and made available the Porsche Dual Clutch (PDK) transmission that delivered lightning-fast shifts and increased driver control. The 997 911 was truly a driver focused car that allowed a multitude of adjustments to ft the individual’s preferences. [1]
