We survived! The successful end of the 2020-2021 academic year—a year unlike any other–is a cause for celebration. And a cause for expressing appreciation to the Academic Affairs family.
From the moment it became clear that major disruptions—including a campus closure–were in store, back in March 2019, academic leadership, faculty and staff acted decisively and collaboratively to ensure that student learning would continue. Overnight, IU Southeast re-invented itself around a vision of flexible distance education, taking our trademark ingenuity and compassion to a new level. The momentum of spring carried over into summer and fall, with dozens of us involved in cross-campus restart committees that came up with answers for just about every question that might arise, and processes and procedures for every logistical challenge posed by the pandemic. We were like a cruise ship transformed into an airplane—and we actually flew!

This success, and the continuity that will reveal itself in ways big and small once our campus fully reopens this fall, owes so much to your individual and collective determination that IU Southeast simply must not fail. As I am constantly mindful of your sacrifice, I hope that you are conscious of the gratitude you have earned.
