Instructional Design

When a course is developed by eDS, each instructor is assigned a production team including an instructional designer, instructional technologist, graphic designer, and video producer who work with the faculty to collaboratively develop the course. Production meetings typically occur once a week where the course developer is guided through the backward design process by their instructional designer, who provides hands-on Canvas support.

Your instructional designer will work with you to:

  • Develop measurable learning outcomes that are closely aligned with assessments and program competencies
  • Create engaging activities, authentic assessments, and detailed rubrics
  • Recommend appropriate course organization
  • Provide custom page formatting
  • Ensure accessibility
  • Develop customized learner pathways
  • Facilitate badging or digital credentials

“The eDS team has been spectacular. I can’t convey how thrilled I am with my transition to Canvas and the online environment. I truly think it has transformed the class. We incorporated online discussions and they far exceeded my expectations as far as engaging the students. I’m so appreciative of all you and your team did to encourage me.” Matthew Allen, IU School of Medicine

Examples of eDS Design Work

Homepage

Using tools like CIDI Labs, eDS creates customized templates that simplify navigation and make it easier for students to focus on course content. These templates can be reused throughout a program for a consistent branded look.

Assessments

Instructional designers work with faculty to create authentic, meaningful assessments that prepare students for real world experience. Assessments are closely aligned with learning outcomes and program competencies so students understand how each activity relates to the larger learning objectives in the course.

Custom page formatting

Working in association with our graphic designers and developers, the development team can create striking new visual possibilities in Canvas to engage students and make course content stand out.
