Mónica Vega González

Literature Instructor
Mónica is originally from Puerto Rico. She completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Puerto Rico (2014) and did a Master’s in Editing and Publishing at UAB, Barcelona (2015). She completed a second Master’s in Hispanic Linguistics at Indiana University. Mónica is now pursuing her graduate Ph.D. degree in Hispanic Literatures in Bloomington. Her primary research interests are in Puerto Rican and Caribbean contemporary art and culture. She has been teaching for five years at the IU Department of Spanish and Portuguese. She enjoys listening to music, dancing salsa, reading, outdoor activities, South Korean culture, and traveling. She will be teaching Literature.
Alicia Sánchez de Ibargüen

Alicia is an exchange student from the University of Seville, currently working in the Hispanic Linguistics Department at Indiana University – Bloomington. She completed her Master’s degree in Translation and Interculturality in 2023 at the University of Seville, and holds a B.S. in English Studies from the same university. She is originally from Spain, and her primary research interests concern Second Language Acquisition and Psycholinguistics. She has studied abroad in Ireland, Poland, and France. Alicia likes traveling, and she is looking forward to mentoring and walking alongside a new generation of learners.
Gabriela (Gabby) Mendoza
Public Relations
Grammar Instructor
Gabby is a Spanish teacher at Carmel High School. She has been a Spanish teacher for 11 years. She is originally from Mexico but grew up in Frankfort, Indiana. Gabby obtained her BA in French at IU Indianapolis. During her time at IU Indianapolis, she studied abroad in Strasbourg, France to improve on her French speaking abilities. Throughout her time at Carmel, she has traveled abroad with students to Europe, Central America, and South America. She is currently working on her MA from the University of Salamanca (Spain). Gabby comes from a large family and enjoys spending time with her nephews. She also loves animals and has a cat named Sese. Gabby is looking forward to returning to IUHPFL and to ensuring the safety and fun of our high school students.
Patricia Fernández Rodríguez
On-Site Coordinator
Patricia is the director of London Thames Language School and Almeria Spanish School, founded by her father 45 years ago. She teaches music and English, with experience in Mojácar, Turre, and London. Patricia handles various roles in the school, including management, marketing, and customer service. She also offers linguistic and leisure services to Spanish and foreign companies. Passionate about arts, music, and literature, she enjoys exploring diverse cultures.
