The IU Southeast School of Arts & Letters, Fine Arts Department and IU Southeast Ceramics hosted Nigerian artist Ngozi-Omeje Ezema for a virtual visiting artist lecture via Zoom on September 30. “It’s important for students to gain a better understanding and stronger appreciation for what is happening in the global ceramics field,” said Brian Harper, associate professor of fine arts. Professor Susanna Crum’s exhibition at the Carnegie Center for Art and History’s Sally Newkirk Gallery was featured in the December 16, 2020 issue of LEO Weekly. For the show she worked with staff at the Floyd County Library’s Indiana History Room to select and place historical maps in direct conversation with her artwork. See more about the feature.

Amie Villiger Harris, 2013 graduate with a BFA in painting has created a mural for the Boone Building in Whitesburg, Kentucky. The building houses the organization called Appalshop. Appalshop has provided arts education and community development for youth in its area since 1969. Today’s Appalshop initiatives include a radio station, theater, art gallery, record label, filmmaking institute, community development and reproductive justice programs, and much more. A lot of that work happens in the Boone Building, which also houses the organization’s Appalachian Media Institute. Read the IU Southeast NOW story and check out more of Amie’s work.
- Alumna, Kristy Cambron, an Art History major continuing her interest in historical fiction, is having her eleventh book published this month. It is titled The Paris Dressmaker and is available at Amazon.
