STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION
| • | Two of Professor Tammy Voigt‘s students D’Coryia Cunningham and Kaitlin Henderson have been awarded American Advertising Federation (AAF) Louisville Education Foundation scholarships.
Cunningham, a senior from Louisville majoring in strategic communication, has received the Louisville Advertising Federation’s annual Diversity Scholarship, a $2,500 gift dedicated to minority students. Henderson, a senior majoring in strategic communication, received the Bud Ballard Scholarship, a $2,500 gift. As a part of her successful application process, Cunningham submitted an essay that articulated an understanding of, and need for, a more diverse and inclusive workforce for the benefit of the community in general, and for the Louisville advertising and communications industry in particular. Henderson contributed an essay indicating why she was interested in a career in advertising, outlining her career goals and aspirations, demonstrating how she might contribute to the industry, and stating how the scholarship would help her achieve her goals. |
ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATION
| • | As a workforce development intern for Trilogy Health Services last year, Madison Wolf, organizational communication major helped to create an externship program that gives Waggoner High School students experience in a healthcare facility while earning a Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) certification.
Wolf designed the program based on Trilogy’s existing high school externships in Indiana and Ohio, and within the structure of the company’s Fast Track Apprenticeship Program, the largest of its kind in the U.S. |

Nate Wheatley, ’07 Nate Wheatley ’07 is bringing opera to the 21st century with Opera 180, a small company he co-founded in Kansas City, Missouri. Wheatley credits the theater program at IU Southeast with helping him understand how to conduct himself in the business aspects of the stage. Read more.

Matt Street, ’19 Matt Street ’19 has been selected to join the Professional Training Company (PTC) at Actors Theatre in Louisville. Street is the first IU Southeast graduate to be selected. The apprenticeship program gives 39 members in all areas of performance, production and management the opportunity to produce a full season of shows focused on new works and emerging artists. Kristin Gilbert, ’12 Kristen Gilbert ’12, IU Southeast theatre graduate is now teaching at TERi in California in the performing arts department. TERi specializes in serving individuals who have needs which cannot be met by other existing programs. The goal is to improve the quality of life for children and adults with developmental and learning disabilities. She has shared this pandemic inspired music video to inspire us all.
