Reproductions of pledge badges from the Great Flood of 1937 Susanna Crum, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts and her partner, Rudy Salgado, are blending art, reminiscence and a sense of place to boost morale in Louisville, Kentucky. Crum sees in this project the ability of art and artists to provide continuity with the past, hope for the future, and an aesthetic experience to share (though remotely) with others. Read more.

Work-in-progress logo for EDDE conference by Dr. Kok Chow Yeoh Dr. Kok Chow Yeoh is collaborating with Mr. Mandar Rane, Professor of Communication Design and Dr. Purba Joshi, Associate Professor of Product Design from the IDC Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Ms. Sheeraz Wania, Professor of Arts, Design & Information Technology from George Brown College in Toronto, Canada to set up an online conference in 2021.
The conference has been prompted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which affects many aspects of teaching, particularly because of its impact on education and the hope is to create a fruitful discussion to help chart the future of design education.
The collaboration is currently in the early stages of securing funds, registering a domain name, and writing proposals. However, a name for the conference has already been secured — EDDE (Education of Design Conference). Dr. Yeoh is designing a logo for the conference.

Dr. Anne Allen weaves on a Navajo loom. Dr. Anne Allen was featured as a Faculty Innovator in a IUS NOW story. Allen joined the IU Southeast faculty as the institution’s first art historian in 1994. Her focus has been indigenous art traditions of the Pacific. She is editor of Pacific Arts, the journal of the Pacific Arts Association, of whose international board she is a member. Her teaching also encompasses Native American, Northern European, Pre-Columbian, Baroque, and Japanese art, among others. Her excellence in the classroom has earned her five Trustees Teaching Awards and an IU southeast Distinguished Teaching Award (2005). Read more.
- Thanks to the work of Debra Clem and Greg Roberts the Fine Art program has been granted a new four year IU Southeast Bachelor of Science in Art Education degree that offers an in-depth study of the Art Education profession and gives students the professional coursework needed for credentialed teaching. This is the only undergraduate art education program offered in the Kentuckiana region.
