Gunter Wall - Congratulations to Dr. Barbara Kutis on earning official Quality Matters certification for her FINA-A 457 Experimental Art Since 1945
- Barbara Kutis, associate professor of fine arts – art history, published her book Artist-Parents in Contemporary Art: Gender, Identity, and Domesticity (Routledge, 2020) and has an forthcoming article titled, “Scaffolding the Formal Analysis Assignment in Art History Courses to Promote Learning” in the Journal of Teaching and Learning with Technology (2020)
- Michael Jackman, senior lecturer in English received the summer faculty teaching fellowship to create a service learning course and research project for the writing program.
- Tammy Burke, instructor in fine arts has been working on a collaborative work for Clark Memorial Health’s Project Uplift and with women artists at the NoCo Arts Center. She has been featured in two articles reporting on these projects in the News and Tribune.
- Dr. Samantha Earley, associate professor for English and her colleague, Nancy C. DeJoy at Michigan State University have just published the article. “Image-ning the Emotive Power of the Poetic Word: Multi-layered, Multi-faceted Images as Pathways for Understanding Our Singular and Collective Lives” in the International Journal of The Image.
- Jacob Babb, associate professor of English, received the Outstanding Scholarship Award from the Council of Writing Program Administrators for his co-authored article “Rethinking SETs: Retuning Student Evaluations of Teaching for Student Agency,” published in Composition Studies. His second edited collection, The Things We Carry: Strategies for Recognizing and Negotiating Emotional Labor in Writing Program Administration, was published by Utah State University Press in 2020.
- Erich Stem, associate professor of music, recently received a fiscal sponsorship for his project, “America By” from the Aaron Copland House, one of the premier foundations for the support of American music. His recent commission with the project will feature the James Madison University Symphony Orchestra about the Shenandoah region and will be premiered at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts in the fall of 2021.
- Leigh Ann Meyer, writing center director, along with Donna Dahlgren, dean of student success and persistence and Seuth Chaleunphonh, dean of student life were awarded a $25,000 grant to support graduating high school seniors as they transition to college. The grant was used to create a virtual summer pre-college boot camp (bridge) program designed to connect new GEAR UP students and 21st Century Scholars with peer helpers who possess tutoring skills and who are familiar with the on-campus learning system.
- Rebecca Carlton, Senior Lecturer of Communication Studies received the IU Trustee Teaching Award for the 2019 calendar year. Faculty who receive the awards have distinguished themselves as educators in the broadest sense during the calendar year, providing excellent and innovative classroom experiences while also offering students opportunities for further immersion and maintaining their own presence in their fields, such as through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at scholarly conferences, in order to inform and enliven their instruction with the most current ideas and practices.
