Rebekah Young - Congratulations to Greg Roberts who was named a Legacy Award winner for this year!
The Legacy Award was created in 2014 to recognize full-time appointed clerical, technical, and service maintenance staff members for their exceptional contributions as they carry forward the campus’s mission and core values as part of a rich legacy of all IU Southeast staff, past and present, who share in the ongoing commitment to our campus community. - Congratulations to Greg Roberts for securing an IU Grant (with additional funding from external sources). The grant is Queer Philanthropy Circle and Well House Society for $17,170. Rural Safe Spaces: Building Safe Zones and Support for LGBTQ+ Individuals on Campus and in Our Community.
- The campus community recognized recipients of the 2022 distinguished teaching, research, and service. Awardees from the School of Arts and Letters were:
Distinguished Teaching Award (Full-time faculty) Tammy Owens Voigt
Diversity Award: Greg RobertsStaff Counsel also recognized five Legacy Award winners on behalf of Staff Counsel. Recipients of the Legacy Award included Greg Roberts, School of Arts and Letters. Kudos to the A & L faculty and staff winners! Read more ↗
- The Graphic Design and Honor’s Program trips featured in the spring 2022 newsletter release were made possible through pilot funding of faculty lead excursions. The pilot program allows faculty to create awesome and engaging experiences for students that extend learning beyond the classroom using innovative ways that create a community of learners.
Funding has been extended and will continue next year. Faculty are encouraged to apply using the Qualtrics link. - Dean Hesselman provided the closing speech at the Ray Wallace Chair Dedication. The Dean spoke of event highlights and conversations he had with former Chancellor Wallace and welcomed him to the School of Arts and Letters English Department stating in part, “…I now have two ex-Deans and two ex-Chancellors in that program. One more of either and we’ll have a full house.” To which Ray replied, “Vegas baby!” The chair is on display at the campus library.
- There is a new addition to the main hall of the first floor at Knobview Hall. Access free non-perishable and refrigerated items (check out the freezer too!) at the new pantry location. If food or personal items are not available at Knobview Hall’s food pantry, visit Counseling and Psychological Services (UC South, Room 207).
- The Theatre and Fine Arts Departments joined forces for the Harvest Homecoming parade. Each department’s float used similar, complimenting themes. IU Southeast placed 3rd under the Presidents’ category, 3rd under the Theme category, and 1st under the Commercial category. Congratulations!
- Dr. Kok Cheow Yeoh has been appointed to serve as the new SAGA (Study Abroad and Global Awareness) Director. He will be assuming the role of Director on January 1, 2023. Dr. Yeoh has extensive experience in traveling abroad and working with students and contributing to international events on campus. He brings a wealth of expertise to the program. Congratulations Dr. Yeoh!
- The IU Southeast Library hosted a reception honoring IU Southeast authors and artists. Congratulations to the School of Arts and Letters faculty and staff and student honorees!

Isabelle Zimmerman - Indiana University opened its campus to alumni and families throughout the region for IUS Fest held on October 29. The new event was a mixture of homecoming and fall festival, two time-honored traditions where the campus welcomes back alumni and engages students in celebrating all that is IU Southeast.
- Representing the School of Arts and Letters at the Chancellor’s Holiday Luncheon, “Grinch Christmas Tree” – Greg Roberts placed second.
