6 Recipe: Depression-Era Meatloaf

This recipe is indicative of the time it was created in. It has minimal ingredients and a simple preparation that is not popular today.

Ingredients

1/2 cup evaporated milk

2 slices bread

1/4 cup diced white onion

3/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground pepper

1 pound lean ground beef

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350F degrees

In a large bowl, pour milk over bread.

Let stand until the milk is absorbed.

Add onion, salt and pepper.

Stir with fork until bread softens

Mix in ground beef

In a shallow baking dish or tray, shape into a 7x3x2-in

Bake for 50 minutes or until no pink remains when you slice it

Makes 8 servings
