Photography and Videos
Photographs and videos are an excellent way to convey information and garner support for the AMPATH partnership and use of photography and videos is encouraged on printed and digital materials. However, care must be taken to respect the privacy and dignity of patients and others.
• Permission must be obtained for photographs or videos featuring identifiable patients, family members or others. Follow local direction and regulation to obtain appropriate waivers, especially within clinical settings. Please ensure that waiver language allows for the use of photos and videos by the AMPATH partnership. Original signed copy of photo waivers should be maintained with local partners with a copy to the consortium partner office.
• Generally, large groups in public settings do not require individual waivers, but it is polite to ask and explain how they will be used.
• Images of colleagues at work are generally acceptable if permission is given.
• When using images publicly, avoid identifying or implying that a patient has a particular disease or condition (especially those that are stigmatized).
• Avoid using images that would be considered discourteous by the local culture (i.e. patients in a state of undress or in extreme pain).
• Local customs, laws and rules should be followed.
