Kenya Visas & Travel Authorization
In order to travel to Kenya, visitors must apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) no earlier than three months of their anticipated arrival date. Though the Government of Kenya has indicated that applications will be reviewed and approved within three business days, we advise visitors to apply at least two weeks in advance.

Application Tips:
- Visit Purpose:
- If applying for a temporary nursing practice license, please select “Conference” as your visit purpose. For all other guests, you may select “tourism.”
- Documents required for the application:
- Passport Bio-page
- Flight Itinerary
- Housing Reservation
- If selecting a visit purpose from the “Business” subcategory, an invitation letter from an “agency, company or employer correspondence justifying your presence in Kenya”
- Nurses applying for a temporary nursing practice license: once your visit request has been approved, AMPATH staff in Kenya will request an invitation letter from MTRH on your behalf.
- Please note that this field is marked as optional, but Kenyan immigration will not approve the eTA application if left blank.

- If staying at IU House:
- Visitors must first submit the AMPATH Visit Details Form, which includes a section for requesting housing. Once the IU House team has reviewed your request, the visitor will receive a confirmation email that may be used for the eTA application.
- Please note that you may submit the Visit Details form without uploading copies of your flight itineraries or eTA.
- On the eTA application, there will be an option to select “Indiana University House” as your accommodations.
- Visitors must first submit the AMPATH Visit Details Form, which includes a section for requesting housing. Once the IU House team has reviewed your request, the visitor will receive a confirmation email that may be used for the eTA application.
- If staying at IU House:
Once you have received your eTA:

- Upload it to your submitted AMPATH Visit Details form using the link that was emailed to you and the return code that was generated when you saved your form. If you have any trouble re-accessing your form, you may also email a copy of your eTA to the AMPATH Visitors Team at visitors@ampathkenya.org.
- Print a copy to show the airline and at the port of entry into Kenya.
Other Immigration/Visa Applications
Depending on the visitor’s role (e.g., trainee vs. faculty) and length of stay, they may also be required to submit an additional immigration application (e.g., pupil pass, special pass, etc.).
