Kenyan Clinical License Applications
Who is required to apply for a license?
Any licensed physician (including residents), nurse, or physician assistant who will be participating in any patient–facing work (CLINICAL OR NON-CLINICAL) and/or need access to any clinical areas of the hospital campus is required to obtain a temporary Kenya clinical license prior to travel.
Pharmacists are not required to apply for a license, but must submit certain documents to obtain approval to practice in Kenya.
Nursing students are required to obtain a nursing student permit prior to arrival. Medical students do not need a license or permit.
Application Process
All required documents are submitted via the AMPATH Visitor Information Form. Once the individual’s visit has been approved, a link to the relevant clinical license application will be emailed to them, if applicable.
While required documents will vary for each license application type, most applications will require copies of your passport, current license, diploma, CV, Kenya Electronic Travel Authorization (please note: nurses must select “Conference” as their visit purpose), and a color passport-sized photo. Some applications will require you to submit 1-3 letters of recommendation.
For additional guidance on required documents and application procedures, please see the relevant standard operating procedures document here.
NOTE: If you applied and were approved for registration in the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) online system in 2021 (uncommon), you do not need to apply for one of the options above. Visit the KMPDC portal to renew your annual license.
Application Fees
Application fees should be paid via PayPal, sent to IIGH.Kenya@gmail.com, upon submission of the application. A small part of this fee covers someone to prepare and submit your application to the Kenyan authorities.
