Glossary of Terms
AMPATH in-country partners – Academic health centers, universities and public sector health institutions that partner with AMPATH Consortium institutions to provide holistic and sustainable healthcare in their communities.
- AMPATH Kenya in-country partners: Moi University (MU) + Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH)
- AMPATH Ghana in-country partners: University for Development Studies (UDS) + Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTS)
- AMPATH Méxicoin-country partner: Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP)
- AMPATH Nepal in-country partners: Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences + Dhulikhel Hospital (DH)
In each AMPATH country, the anchor partner procures formal Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with the in-country’s Ministry of Health and academic health center (university and teaching hospital) to work cooperatively to improve all levels of the health care delivery system, from tertiary care facilities to community-based and home-based outreach and service.

AMPATH Global – AMPATH Global is the network of partners involved in AMPATH Kenya, AMPATH Ghana, AMPATH/MAPAS México and AMPATH Nepal. This network is led by the AMPATH Global Executive Leadership team with representatives from each location.
MAPAS –The Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare translates in Spanish as Modelo Académico para Proveer Acceso a la Salud (MAPAS), which is the term used to describe the AMPATH partnership in México.
IUCGHE – The Indiana University Center for Global Health Equity (IUCGHE) serves as the secretariat of AMPATH Global. In this role, the staff of IUCGHE coordinates regular meetings of AMPATH partners and stakeholders, builds broad support for all AMPATH efforts, and coordinates research, education and care efforts across multiple partnerships. IUCGHE fuels our collective mission and vision by serving as the structural “backbone” of the partnership network.
