The AMPATH Model

Header that says "The AMPATH Model: Partnering to Improve the Health of People in Underserved Communities" with a 3-circle venn diagram. Text in the top center circle says "PUBLIC SECTOR HEALTH SYSTEM: National institutions and system for delivering health care." Text in the lower right circle says "ACADEMIC HEALTH SCIENCES INSTITUTION: University with medicine and/or health sciences school." Text in lower left circle says "GLOBAL CONSORTIUM OF UNIVERSITY PARTNERS: AMPATH Consortium and collaborators." The border of the venn diagram repeats the words "CARE TRAINING RESEARCH."AMPATH is the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare.  It is a model of partnership that brings together a local academic medical center (public sector health system and academic health sciences institution) to partner with a group of highly resourced institutions that we collectively refer to as the AMPATH Consortium.

The AMPATH (Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare) global network builds cross-cultural partnerships between universities and academic health centers to strengthen health systems and tackle health disparities, train future global health leaders and foster healthcare innovations to improve health worldwide. AMPATH enables medical doctors, residents, students and scientists unique opportunities to study and serve together through care, training and research programs that are designed to respond to the needs of the populations served.

In the case of AMPATH Kenya, the first AMPATH site, it is a partnership between Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and Moi University, both in Eldoret, and the AMPATH Consortium, a global network of universities and academic health centers led by Indiana University. AMPATH partners with the Kenyan government to support care for a population of 24 million+ people and leads foundational training and research programs. We start with getting Kenyan people access to quality healthcare, and then we go beyond to help people thrive through economic empowerment, agricultural training, and self-sufficiency programs.

Each day, we continue to build and strengthen our global network of academic health centers to ensure essential healthcare for all people.
