About The Author

My name is Alex Smith, and despite not being able to convene my group for the past year I’m still a big fan of tabletop roleplaying games. My interest started somewhere in elementary school, when my god-uncle decided to loan me his original copy of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons players’ handbook – the first edition, no less. I still look back on that and go, “huh, he really gave a relic like that to a grade schooler.”

No matter what was handed down to me, though, I cottoned on to the idea of TTRPGs quickly. And after moving here to Richmond, I found a circle of friends that I could convince to join me in trying to play Dungeons and Dragons. Our first campaigns were laughable, but we learned how to both play and run a good campaign in time.

Seeing as Dungeons and Dragons was such a great source of entertainment (and time with friends,) I decided to cover its history and current state in this book. Consider it my way of repaying Gygax’s legacy for what it did for me.
