Care
- Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Program:
- Cervical Cancer: Planning ongoing for the launch of a two-week training course on cervical cancer screening (dates of training: 5/14 to 5/24)
- OB/GYN
- Had a strategic meeting with co-leads on MFM unit as OB/GYN TL starts to transition out of her role, highlights include:
- Planning for success of CUGH-Hologic women’s health grant
- Possible future trips by TL to continue assisting the development and expansion of the unit
- 3-5-year plan: leverage the MFM unit in order to be able to start a hybrid MFM fellowship at TTH
- Surgery
- Planned visit by two faculty surgeons and two trainees in June 2024 with goal is to establish a more formalized clinical partnership identifying key areas where NYU faculty can be of assistance in assisting with surgical clinical care at TTH
- Focusing efforts on the early stages of establishing a bi-directional streaming of surgical cases and educational lectures between NYU and TTH
- Working on obtaining laparoscopic equipment with a future focus on providing a formalized laparoscopic training curriculum
- Infectious Diseases Molecular Diagnostic Lab:
- Lab arrived in Accra, Ghana on March 29
- Tax exemptions and FDA clearance granted, final step is completing clearing process
- AMPATH Ghana updated donation SOP with lessons learned from the donation
Education
- OB/GYN
- TL mentoring 2 UDS-SOM students on reproductive health-based thesis work
- 2 lectures given to nursing students as part of their NYU Women’s Global Health Elective
- Internal Medicine
- Online lecture series is ongoing
- Started a new skills-based and case-based discussion series for the PBL6 students
- Surgery
- Currently providing yearly lectures to medical students at UDS on their surgical clerkship (PBL 4 and 6 classes)
- Plan to provide a fundamentals of research course to TTH surgical faculty and trainees
- Plan to provide a lecture discussing how to review CT scans as a surgeon with common pathologies
- Medical Student Exchange
- Students have submitted visa applications
- In the process of requesting expedited visa interviews with the Embassy
- Finalized necessary vaccinations needed for medical student exchange program
- Began drafting preceptorship and elective forms for NYU Langone processes
- Off-Campus Clinical Education
- The Executive Site Director visited the students at Techiman and conducted an initial information gathering session on the pros and cons of the new program

- Continuing to work with the 10 faculty who attended the NYSIM course to develop and implement simulation into their departments further
- David Salifu piloted simulation project to randomized group of medical students
- Presented to Clinical Skills Group on progress of work, included Tania Satnick and neurosurgery team for further partnership in working sessions

- Notified HCD Pilot groups on decisions and status of funding
- Set up internal meeting to discuss standards of practice for projects

- ECHO
- Initiated paperwork for NYU Langone as ECHO partner
- Discussed expanding AMS partnership with TTH as the Hub site
- Monthly NYU-UDS-TTH-MU-IU ECHO meetings ongoing
- Discussions with Moi regarding expanding engagement to other clinical areas where Moi has developed resources and experience (e.g. POCUS, cardiovascular sonography, neuro nursing, pharmacy, etc).
- TEACH Pilot Project (Adam Schwartz) met regarding an ECHO curriculum model for hypertension ECHO (from TEACH pilot project)
- TEACH Pilot Project (Kottkamp) on AMR met to decide lecture schedule and additional planning for implementation
- Updated IU and ECHO Global on status of implementation including 1) engaging with pilot projects 2) current timelines
- Initiated paperwork for NYU Langone as ECHO partner

- Meeting between NYU Long Island, NYU Department of Surgery, and Temple University to streamline surgery efforts and future collaborations
