How does Incivility affect the Company?
Workplace incivility has had a wide-ranging impact on the company over the years. Employee morale has been impacted in some ways, which can reduce employees’ trust and respect for the company and one another5. Another way the company has been negatively impacted is customer satisfaction, which can leave customers extremely dissatisfied with the company’s products and services, causing the company to suffer significantly.6 “ These consequences have also been extended to the team level, affecting the turnover intentions of those employees who had not been direct targets.”.1 Not only were employees directly affected by workplace incivility, but also employees who were either bystanders or heard about it through word of mouth.
How does workplace incivility impact employee performance?
Incivility in Fully-Clothed Couture’s workplace culture has affected the employees negatively which is the cause for so many absences in the day-to-day workplace environment. One way the employees have been affected by incivility is psychological impact. “Employees who encounter rudeness or disrespect may become agitated, anxious, or frustrated, which might divert them from their work and impair their capacity for focused attention”5. When employees can no longer focus on their daily work, it can cause a decrease in productivity. Another way that workplace incivility negatively affects employees is reduced teamwork. Employees are less inclined to assist one another, share ideas, and interact effectively in a hostile work atmosphere created by incivility, which lowers team productivity.
How does workplace incivility impact overall company performance?
Workplace incivility has affected the company’s performance negatively for quite a while now. It is harmful to the performance of the employees, and can also harm the trust that these employees have formed with the supervisors. “Employees have stated that working in those hostile environments have caused them stress which they could compare to as harmful as war-related stress”4.This is very concerning to think about, the fact that workplace incivility incidents have caused many workers that high level of stress is concerning. Just as discussed previously, if the employees feel like their supervisors have either been avoiding the problem or enabling the problem, this can reduce trust levels in the company and make colleagues not work together, which decreases overall company productivity, which can affect the company financially.
Financial effects from workplace incivility
Workplace incivility has caused some legal and reputation costs. Fully- Clothed Couture has developed a high-standing reputation by having consistent efforts in the field of Transparency and Honesty. Being transparent about where the goods are coming from, how they are made, and why these products are priced the way they are. The company is very honest in communicating to the public when they have done any wrongdoings. If incivility turns into wrong-doing, the company will face long-lasting damage to the company reputation they have worked hard to maintain, and possibly face legal issues if someone like a customer or business partner wants to sue. Additionally, incivility among employees can hinder their customer relations skills. Unhappy and stressed employees can often begin to project those feelings onto customers and this would potentially cost the company money due to the loss of revenue. Furthermore, employees experiencing incivility could cost the company money due to their resulting poor customer service skills tarnishing the company’s reputation that it has worked so hard to achieve.
