Alternative Approaches

Although the negatives of government shutdowns may seem overwhelming, there are also counterarguments that have been discussed. First, some argue that the phrase “government shutdown” is a scare tactic utilized on citizens and politicians (Bryan, 2015). These same people argue that a government shutdown is not as bad as it sounds, and that instead of long term devastation of the economy, there is only a short term hit (Bryan, 2015). Many people debate the actual effects that a government shutdown burdens the economy with. Some might say our economy is being heavily affected by the shutdown, while others will disagree, explaining that a government shutdown is simply not as burdensome in the end (Bryan, 2015).
