ENDOCRINOLOGY AND METABOLISM
Goals: The division plans to expand diabetes research, both basic and clinical, by recruiting new faculty. It will also recruit new faculty and involve more existing faculty in other areas of research.
Clinical Areas of Excellence:
robust clinical service focused on patients with diabetes, thyroid disease, metabolic bone disease, pituitary and adrenal disorders; catchment area covers the entire state of Indiana and, for rare disorders, extends well beyond the state
Education Areas of Excellence:
leadership in the Endocrine, Reproductive, Musculoskeletal, and Dermatologic Systems course for second year medical students and very active endocrine rotations for students and residents; very high caliber of fellows; very active conference schedule with three weekly conferences (endocrine grand rounds, endocrine case conference, and metabolic bone case conference); research conference for all diabetes investigators through the Diabetes Center
Research Areas of Excellence:
diabetes, obesity, metabolic bone disease, and rare metabolic disease research; developing strength in pituitary disease. The division’s diabetes research spans from cell culture and animal model studies, to clinical research to community focused research. Its research in metabolic bone and mineral disorders involves cell culture, animal models, clinical research and informatic studies using the Indiana Network for Patient Care.
