NEPHROLOGY

Goals: Integrate Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) into routine care; work closely with population health to reduce costs of caring for patients with kidney disease while improving care; work towards a Kidney Research Center of Excellence.

 

Clinical Areas of Excellence:
dialysis, including home therapies; chronic kidney disease; glomerulonephritis; polycystic kidney disease; genetic disorders; diabetic and all causes of kidney disease; prevention of kidney stones; difficult-to-control hypertension

Education Areas of Excellence:
diverse training in nephrology with subspecialty nephrology care in transplant, home dialysis, hypertension, pharmacogenomics, kidney stone prevention, polycystic kidney disease, and glomerulonephritis; two blocks of Intercession training for intensive education and hands on experience during the first year of fellowship

Research Areas of Excellence:
the Kidney Precision Medicine Program (KPMP) was one of five centers to be renewed for another five years; HubMap, the making of a Kidney Atlas in collaboration with Washington University; the Musculoskeletal Clinical Research Center recently renewed for another five years; and the Pediatric Center of Excellence in Nephrology, a collaboration with Washington University. The George O’Brien Kidney Center award is in its twentieth year.
