RHEUMATOLOGY
Goals: Expand performance of e-consults and review outpatient consultations so as to provide more timely care for patients who need and may benefit from the division’s services; recruit new faculty with research interest and potential
Clinical Areas of Excellence:
general rheumatology–all faculty evaluate patients with any rheumatological condition, from the basic to the most complex, and provide inpatient consultations at the IUH AHC, Eskenazi and VA hospitals. Additionally, faculty administer musculoskeletal ultrasound for procedures and diagnosis, and the division also employs a nurse practitioner who sees patients with fibromyalgia
Education Areas of Excellence:
offers a high-quality fellowship program to train future rheumatologists, including an effective didactic program, as well as clinical experience at IU Health University Hospital, Eskenazi Health and the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC; additionally, the division is integrally involved in resident education, providing extensive outpatient clinical experience and a structured education program
Research Areas of Excellence:
Dr. Hugenberg participates in drug company studies, and he is also a sub-investigator in a Sjogren’s syndrome study being done with the lU School of Dentistry and assisting the Department of Anesthesiology with an automated acupuncture study for fibromyalgia
