3 The Power of Less
Having less garments doesn’t mean anti-fashion. Dressing more with less is anti-clutter and anti-waste. Buying less and wearing our clothes more is a simple and sustainable solution. The power of a minimalist wardrobe helps build a functioning wardrobe, affording better quality clothes, and staying sane amid mirages of fashion discounts, deals, and everchanging trends. Think of buying less simply as wearing what we love more. Buying carefully and wearing our clothes for longer can make fashion more sustainable.
Fast on Fashion
A fashion fast is the opposite of fast fashion. It is a full and intentional break from buying new clothes and the perfect way to practice the power of less. There are a number of reasons to go on a fashion fast and to repeat it on a regular basis. Here are some ground rules to make the most of your fashion fast. Fashion fasting can help cultivate the discipline to be in a store without buying, hold out for better purchases, and treasure what you already own, all useful skills in building a conscious closet.
Survey the situation. Before you start, tally up how much clothing you’ve been buying and how much you’ve been spending. Download an app that tallies your screen time use or iPhone’s Screen time function to look up time spent browsing online shops.
Set your parameters. You could fast for a month, a season, or a full year. Choose a duration of time that is challenging but is something you can realistically stick to. Make rules ahead of time about what you can and can’t buy.
Free your time. Fully take back your time spent shopping. Recycle your catalogues and cut out all browsing online. Unsubscribe from emails and promotions from clothing brands.
