Course: SOC-S335 – Race and Ethnic Relations (“Ethnicity and Nationalism” at the Federal Univ. of Bahia), Introduction to Latin American Politics (Univ. of Guyana).
Course Description: The project students will work on in SOC-S355 is designed to examine the lived practical impact on everyday social relations between peoples of different origins in the three countries participating in the class. Students will research the co-production of race, racism, nationalism, and ethnicity from the sociological and anthropological perspectives and how these are informed by COLONIALISM and hence the historical context. The cross-cultural student exchange will concentrate on the involvement of students examining and understanding the impact of the colonial enterprise on racial diversity in the three countries.
