Arrival in Georgetown

Linden-Lethem Road

The road from Georgetown through the mining town of Linden and onto the Rupununi Savanah was an intense 250-mile experience! This provided insights into landscape change from the ocean plain, to the uplands, and into the Rupununi Savanah. A roadside shop also provided an opportunity to eat local cuisine.
Iwokrama River Lodge

The Iwokrama Lodge is a stunning ecolodge on the banks of the Essequibo River.
Sustainable Logging in Iwokrama

Students listened to specialists in sustainable logging and observed the mill at Iwokrama. This important process highlights the ability to responsibly harvest timber in ways that do not impact forest ecologies.
Iwokrama Canopy Walkway

The Canopy Walkway at Iwokrama is an amazing way to experience the rainforest at the treetop level.
Surama Village and EcoLodge

Bina Hill Institute, North Rupununi Savanah

Students engage in cultural exchange with local students at the Bina Hill Institute. This institute, developed by the North Rupununi District Development Board, serves as a finishing school for local students.
IUE Students experienced a presentation by current students, followed by a back-and-forth cultural exchange in which students from both places recognized their shared commonalities.

Museum of African Heritage

The Museum of African Heritage documents the trials and triumphs of African peoples in Guyana from the Colonial period through the present.
