Apartments:

If you prefer the option of living with international and Spanish students, you will be given the contact information for the main student apartment agencies in Madrid. There you can rent a room in this shared apartment but will usually NOT be the main lease holder. You can ask WIP staff for advice when choosing a room, but ultimately the decision and contract responsibilities will be yours.

The terms of the agreement vary by agency, but generally you are responsible for paying for the entire semester once you enter a contract. The typical reservation fees are: one month’s security deposit, first month’s rent, and agency fee (varies by agency).

Benefits of an apartment are the freedom to choose your location within Madrid, as well as having more freedom make spontaneous decisions about dining options and trips. Drawbacks to an apartment are generally less Spanish practice and cultural immersion. In environments with lots of different international peers, the language of communication tends to be English.
