Implications

All the articles referenced and read stated that more research was required to obtain specific results. There is never enough information or research gathered when you’re looking at a topic so huge and compelling. More evidence is required to establish the usefulness of ECT in treating schizophrenia (Grover, Charkrabarti, Hazari, & Avasthi, 2017).

If anyone you know is treatment-resistant or has schizophrenia, this paper is a good resource for you. There is a need for understanding in that situation. Also, empathy is needed to help the one suffering with schizophrenia. Many don’t respond to medication, so finding an effective, alternative form of treatment is very important. Different treatments, such as ECT can work. Combining ECT and medication can produce even better results.

This paper briefly looked into the past to present use of ECT. It was introduced in the mid-1900’s and studied for a few years. This contributed to it being deemed ineffective and a risk to patients. However, when further research and the scope was widened, it became accepted. It made a comeback and has gained recognition as a treatment for schizophrenia. It is still gaining recognition and has a rising success rate.
