3 Maternal grandfather’s side of the family
These are pictures representing three generations of John Kosec’s. The last name has had a couple of different spellings according to these documents.
John Kosec that migrated to America worked as a pipe fitter which was common for families at that time in America. Immigrant families were dependent upon the labor that family members could do. This fell upon the men, and sometimes children, as the women typically cared for the children at home and they maintained the separate spheres ideology which is still common today with men being the breadwinner (Ciabattari 2017). Also, Zerubavel mentions that genetic relatedness is passed on through keeping the same name in the family (Zerubavel 2012).
The picture on the right is John Kosec I and to the left is Jon Kosec III. I was able to obtain John Kosec II’s registration card from when he came to the United States pictured above.
I found the marriage license for John Kosec II and Veronica Orish which were my great grandparents. Ancestry provided documentation of when my great grandparents arrived in America. Below is a picture of my grandfather’s side of the family. Him, his parents, and sister are pictured below.
Above is John Kosec II and Veronica Orish.
They were a nuclear family with ascribed roles like mother, daughter, father, son. They were traditional and fall under the definition of a structural family (Ciabattari 2017).
