8 Printing and Scanning
Printing
Printing within the office to main printers
The main printer used within the HANDS office is the “IN-PSYC-Hands in Autism Color Copier on iu-iusm-ps2.” A back-up printer is available in the Think Tank for limited quantities or when the main copier is being serviced and can be found as “IN-PSYC-Hands in Autism Color HP on iu-iusm-ps2.”
Print to Canon printers when off-site or assisting during trainings
The Canon printers are installed on all of the laptops but each have their own copy number such that they show up uniquely in your printer selection list. When selecting a printer, look for the one that is noted as “Ready” among the Canon iP110 series options. All others will be noted as “Offiline.”
General printing considerations:
Consider whether an item needs printed or can be accessed and referenced from the shared drive or online with equal facility. You may also want to check to ensure there are not already available copies within the flyer and materials areas and inventory/backstock.
- For regularly used handouts or individual assessments, these may also be accessible in the Think Tank either from professional printing sources or within the assessments and pre-packets areas respectively.
- For module-based materials, non-research programming data forms, and other research measures, these are accessible within the cabinet in the Workroom and should be checked first for copies prior to printing.
Print double-sided whenever possible to conserve paper.
- You can select this option when you click on the Print button
- Select the Printer Properties button or find this option under Settings as Print One Sided or Print Two Sided (where you will see options to print on the long side on short side and you can discern if you will print a traditional, portrait or landscape view document).
Print in black and white whenever possible to conserve ink and preserve the printer.
- You can select this option when you click on the Print button.
- Select the Printer Properties button and select between Color or Black and White.
When you are printing on colored paper, letterhead, or labels, please let everyone know so they don’t print while the special item is loaded.
- When you are done printing on colored paper, please remember to remove it from the printer.
Copies sitting on the printer that have not been retrieved yet should be placed on top of the file sorter to the left of the printer. Don’t leave them on the printer as it may get jammed or stop printing.
Scanning
When scanning documents, select the appropriate settings to ensure the document is scanned with adequate darkness, color (if applicable) and in a two-sided format if feasible to conserve paper when printing at a later date.
- If a scan is received or sent, please check the scan to remove any unneeded pages as applicable before printing. To remove unneeded pages, select “Edit text and images” and delete blank pages under the “Pages” feature.
