2 Tools to Encourage Student-to-Instructor Interaction
Student-to-Instructor Interaction
All of the tools for promoting student-to-student interaction listed above can also be leveraged for student-to-instructor interaction; however, there are additional tools available especially for facilitating communication between students and their instructor. Click the title of any tool below to learn more about how to leverage them for connecting you with your students.
Comment Library in Speedgrader
Speedgrader is a tool in Canvas that can be used for quickly and easily assessing student work, but it can also be used to offer detailed feedback to your students and allow them to engage in a dialogue with you about their work. The comment library feature allows you to save written feedback that you commonly draft when evaluating student work so that you can easily share these comments with students without having to retype the same comments over and over.
Microsoft Bookings
Bookings allows students to easily schedule a time to meet one-on-one with you by integrating with your Outlook calendar to locate a time in which you are available. Once an available time is selected by the student, Bookings will send a meeting invitation to both you and the student containing a link to be used to join a virtual meeting.
Canvas Scheduler
Like Bookings, the Canvas Scheduler will allow students to schedule time to meet with you one-on-one or as a group. One distinction of Scheduler is that you set designated appointment dates and times from which students can select, which allows you to refine the times that are available since it isn’t connected to your Outlook calendar. It also allows you to customize certain days and times for a given course, so you can have different options available to students in different courses. This makes it an ideal tool for coordinating office hours for your students.
