  • Academic advisor: professional who helps you select courses each semester
  • Anthem BlueCross BlueShield: insurance company offering comprehensive health plans for IU students
  • Assembly Hall: IU basketball arena on the north side of campus
  • Bachelor’s Degree: a four-year undergraduate degree from a college or university
  • Bursar: manages student billing; where you pay your bill – studentcentral.indiana.edu/pay-for-college
  • Crimson Card: university student identification card for use on and off campus – crimsoncard.indiana.edu
  • Canvas: view your class syllabus, assignments, grades, and more – canvas.iu.edu
  • Credit hour: a unit that indicates approximately how much time you will spend in the classroom each week
  • Dunn Meadow: grassy lawn just northwest of the Indiana Memorial Union
  • Freshman/sophomore/junior/senior: undergraduate in the first, second, third, or fourth year of college
  • Grad/grad student: graduate student, holds a bachelor degree and is pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree
  • Hoosier: a resident of the state of Indiana or an IU student
  • IDS: Indiana Daily Student, the campus newspaper – idsnews.com
  • iGPS: tool used for college planning and tracking degree progress – one.iu.edu/task/iu/igps-plan
  • IMU: Indiana Memorial Union – imu.indiana.edu
  • Atlas: online services for international students – atlas.iu.edu
  • IU Mobile: app containing One.IU, bus schedules, and more
  • IUPD: Indiana University Police Department – iupd.indiana.edu
  • Eagleson River: stream flowing through the middle of campus
  • Meal Points/I-Bucks: meal plan currency used to make purchases on campus
  • OIS: Office of International Services – ois.iu.edu
  • One.IU: view your enrolled classes, email, Bursar bill, and more – one.iu.edu
  • RA: resident assistant, a student worker who can help you in the residence halls (on-campus housing)
  • RPS: Residential Programs and Services, manages housing and meal plans – rps.iu.edu
  • Sample Gates: limestone gate located at the intersection of Kirkwood and Indiana Avenues
  • SRSC: Student Recreational Sports Center – recsports.indiana.edu
  • SSN: Social Security Number, a nine-digit U.S. identification number
  • Student Central: online course registration, class schedule, grade records, and more – studentcentral.indiana.edu
  • UID: University ID,
  • 10-digit student ID number: this will be used frequently and should be memorized
  • UITS: University Information Technology Services, provides internet and technology services – uits.iu.edu
  • Undergrad: undergraduate student seeking a baccalaureate or bachelor’s degree
  • University Division (UD): department for all undergraduates without declared majors – ud.indiana.edu
  • Wells: Herman B Wells Library, the primary university library, located on 10th Street
  • Woodlawn Field: field located at Woodlawn and 10th Street
