1 Welcome to IU!
On behalf of all my colleagues in the Office of International Services, welcome to IU!
It is truly a pleasure to have you as a member of the Indiana University (IU) family, and as a fellow Hoosier! Whether you are joining us virtually or in person, your presence at IU enriches the life of the campus and our community and enhances our knowledge and understanding of other countries and cultures.
I strongly encourage you to participate in all of the new student orientation programs and activities that have been designed with your needs in mind. We find that students who actively participate in orientation tend to adjust to the U.S. and Indiana University more quickly and successfully. So, take advantage of all IU has to offer – from big group sessions to Practical English Tutorials to Conversation Partners and all the fun and games. Ask questions and learn as much as you can about IU and the city of Bloomington before the pressures of classes and studies begin. You’ll have fun and meet a lot of amazing people!
I also hope you will find this handbook to be a helpful resource as you begin your journey at IU. It was developed in close consultation with international students who came before you, and offers information and resources to help you get started.
Finally, please know that my colleagues in the Office of International Services and I are always available to assist and support you in anyway we can. We look forward to meeting you at orientation and becoming a valuable resource during your time as an IU student and beyond.
Again, welcome to IU –and enjoy your adventures ahead!
