Map Projections
Goal
In this lab, we will apply various map projections in the conterminous US and assess how maps represent the shapes and areas differently.
Skills
The purpose of this lab is to help you practice the following skills that are essential to your success in this course, as well as in your professional life beyond school:
- Examine the spatial reference of geospatial data.
- Determine a map projection for geospatial data.
- Estimate visual differences in a Geographic Coordinate system (GCS) (i.e., NAD1983) and three Projected Coordinate Systems (PCS) (i.e., Albers Equal Area Conic, Lambert Conformal Conic, State Plane, and Robinson).
- Calculate the area in different map projections.
- Create a map layout with multiple data frames.
