Your Student Email Account: Don’t. Ignore. It.
Your student email account is the official means of communication from IU Indianapolis
Most, if not all, communication from the registrar’s office, bursar’s office, financial aid office, your library, your school, and your department will only come through email to your official IU Indianapolis (IUI) student email account.
As an IUI student, an IUI student email account should have been created when you created the main IUI account to log in to Canvas and other IUI systems. You can access your student email through One.IU and other apps as described in the Knowledge Base
Don’t want another email account to check? You can forward your IUI email account to the email account you use
Two-Step Login (Duo)
Two-Step Login (Duo) provides an additional layer of security when you log into some IUI systems. Two-Step Login, also known as two-factor authentication helps protect sensitive data and guard against increasingly sophisticated email and online scams (e.g., phishing attacks) that can leave you vulnerable to identity theft IUI has partnered with Duo to provide this service.
Like similar services offered by Google and Facebook, you log in by:
- Entering your username and passphrase.
- Confirming your login with an enrolled device.
UITS recommends using the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone or tablet, but if you don’t have such a device, regular cell phones, landlines, Google Voice phone numbers, and U2F tokens are also supported. Single-button hardware tokens (SBHTs) are also being made available.
