IU Kokomo breaks ground on greenhouse

Something new is blooming at Indiana University Kokomo. Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke, accompanied by campus leaders in sciences, facilities, and development, recently broke ground for a 1,500 square foot greenhouse. Located between Hunt Hall and the Kelley House, it will provide teaching and lab space for current and anticipated initiatives in sciences and other programs. go.iu.edu/2RDt

Faculty prepare for remote teaching transition

When the spring semester resumes March 30 at Indiana University Kokomo, faculty and students will meet in a whole new way — off campus. With social isolation measures in place because of concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), classes will be taught remotely through online tools such as Zoom, a video conferencing program, with the capability to record it for students to view later. go.iu.edu/3HCW

There’s no place like Indiana University Kokomo. That’s the sentiment shared by students, faculty, and staff, as they prepare to return to campus August 24, for the fall 2020 semester. Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke looks forward to re-opening the campus, which has been closed since students left for spring break March 13, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Indiana University Kokomo continues to grow its student body with record-breaking numbers this fall semester, after shifting to virtual orientations and enrollment due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bicentennial campaign nets more than $16 million for IU Kokomo

Indiana University Kokomo raised more than $16 million as part of a campaign celebrating IU’s 200th anniversary, far surpassing its original goal, and strengthening the campus’ mission to ensure an affordable and accessible education to students in north central Indiana, preparing them to become the region’s next leaders. Funds from For All: The Indiana University Bicentennial Campaign, which was publicly launched in September 2015, have created more than 140 undergraduate scholarships, while also providing funding for a greenhouse, student international travel, athletic teams, a fitness center, and the new Student Activities and Events Center, which opened in August. More than 3,092 alumni and friends contributed to the campaign, collectively giving a final total of $16,113,776. go.iu.edu/3lMN
IU Kokomo delivers $130.2 million impact on north central Indiana

Indiana University Kokomo added $130.2 million in income to north central Indiana’s economy in FY 2018-19 through its investments in the educational success of its students, research and innovation, and engagement in the economic development, health, and well-being of its communities. When Nicole Robinson watches the news, she often feels scared, or worries about the future for herself and the LGBTQ+ community. “It’s easy to get discouraged and upset. There’s a lot of bad stuff going on,” she said. “There’s a lot of big concerns out there. You’re nervous, you’re scared, and you wonder who it’s safe to talk to about your fears.” As a student at Indiana University Kokomo, Robinson now has a new place to go for resources — the Multicultural Center, which opened this semester in the Kelley Student Center. go.iu.edu/3oc9
