Letter from the Chancellor
May 2021
Dear friends,
The year 2020 was one like we have never experienced in our lifetime. When we left campus and started remote work in March, who would have predicted that a year later a lot of us would still be working from home? The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated each of us to make fundamental changes in the way did business, the way we lived and the way we learned.
This annual report documents how Indiana University Kokomo rose to the COVID challenge. Students and faculty left for spring break, never imagining that they would not be coming back to campus until the fall semester. We can all be proud of our campus and the way everyone pulled together and figured out how to continue our mission of educating our students while maintaining the high standards that IU demands. Our admissions and advising offices did not miss a beat and designed ways to do their work virtually, as did all offices and staff members. Faculty redesigned courses to be able to teach them remotely, which is an amazing accomplishment. As a result of entrepreneurial thinking on everyone’s part, we were one of only two higher education institutions in the state to experience an enrollment increase for fall semester 2020!
I want to thank you for your hard work, and for doing your part in keeping our campus safe so that we were able to continue with the majority of classes either in-person or hybrid formats through the fall break. Together we rose to the challenges of 2020, and I am so proud to share your hard work and highlights from a tumultuous year.
Sincerely,
Susan Sciame-Giesecke, Ph.D.
Chancellor
