How to Scan a Document

Scan and email documents

Note: You may only send your scanned document to an IU email address. Email addresses outside of IU are not accessible.

The default file type for scanned documents is PDF. To scan and email a document:

  1. Place the document(s) to be scanned in the top tray of the printer, facing up.
  2. Swipe your CrimsonCard or log in with the touch screen.
  3. To the left of the touch screen, press the Scanner button. The scanner page will default to “E-mail” and the “To” field will be highlighted.
  4. Touch Manual Entry to display the on-screen keyboard. In the “To” field, enter your primary IU email address (username@iu.edu). If desired, fill in the “Cc” and “Bcc” fields with valid IU email addresses.
  5. Use the menu on the left side of the screen to adjust the settings. We recommend setting the resolution to at least 400ppi.
  6. To scan and email your documents, press the Start button and then the # key to complete the process.
