Shelves

Holds shelf:

These materials come from other IU libraries, as well as non-IU libraries. These materials have been requested in SRCS, Tipasa, or IUCAT by faculty, staff, or students. All items placed on hold must have the user’s last and first name written on top of the slip and the date the item was placed on the shelf. Student Assistants are to arrange these items alphabetically by last name. Items are held for 10 days unless told otherwise by the Access Services Supervisor.

Under no circumstances are Student Assistants to place a hold on non-circulating items.

Lamination request shelf:

After a user has submitted a lamination request form, place the form and materials they want laminated on the lamination request shelf. The request will then be handled by the Access Services Supervisor or a librarian.

Reserves:

Instructors place materials on reserve for students to access. Students wishing to check these materials out must have their CrimsonCard. Students may check out up to two reserved items at a time. Materials have a label that indicates the length of the loan period. Student Assistants should check WorkFlows to verify the loan period on the label matches the circulation receipt.

Materials on the reserve shelf are arranged first by instructor name and then by course. These materials are usually books but may include other formats.

If a Student Assistant is unable to locate a reserved item, consult the reserves binder or check IUCAT by clicking on Reserves below the search box. If the item is in the binder, but not on the shelf, then it is likely checked out by another user. If there is no paperwork in the reserves binder for that course, the instructor of that course has not left any materials to be reserved.

When an instructor submits materials to be put on reserve, they must submit a completed copy of the Reserve Request Form. Reserve Request Forms must accompany items to be placed on Reserve, even if the instructor had the item on Reserve in the past. If the instructor has submitted the form online, you may accept the items and place them on the “to be placed on reserve” shelf on the shelving unit near the Access Supervisor’s office behind Circulation.

Additionally, the Access Services Supervisor must process reserve materials before being returned to the instructor.

Orange Card (ILL) returns:

When checking out materials with an Orange Card, these materials are are items from non-IU libraries. The Orange Card is created in order to loan out the material to the faculty, staff, or student who requested it.

When checking out these materials to their borrower, be sure to manually input the date written on the Orange Card before scanning the item. This date allows the material to be lent out for more than 24 hours. When the date is not changed, the item will prompt the user via email to return it after 24 hours have passed.

After a Student Assistant has discharged orange card materials, the materials are placed on the shelf labeled Returns – Orange Card.

Routing shelves:

Materials routed to other IU libraries are to be placed on the routing shelves in KA 117. WorkFlows will display “Put item in transit” on the screen, and a transit slip will print, indicating to which library the materials will be sent. Be sure to place items on the shelf labeled with the corresponding library location.

Charging Station

This small table with extension cord should be used when charging equipment on reserve, including laptops and Chromebooks.

Cubicle

This workstation includes a computer and microfilm/microfiche reader. The Access Services Supervisor and Information Services Librarian use station to fulfill user requests. When it is not in use, you may sit here when on break.

Grey Cabinet

This cabinet includes supplies for light cleaning, including a duster, window/glass cleaners, rag, and Clorox wipes. Student Assistants should report larger messes to the Access Services Supervisor or a librarian. If you notice that supplies are running low, notify the Access Services Supervisor. This also where we store extra earplugs to refill the bowl at the circulation desk.

InfoExpress

The majority of our interlibrary loan materials are shipped via InfoExpress, the statewide delivery service for library materials within Indiana. Each day Monday-Thursday a courier from Pillow Logistics will stop by the Library to drop off and pick up materials. These couriers are welcome to come behind the circulation desk to do this work. While we typically have one or two regularly scheduled couriers, substitutes may need to be shown where this bin is located behind circulation.
