Common Library Card Problems

After scanning a student ID into record it gives an error.

  • Student ID has not been activated as library card
    • Card number in record starts with an NB
    • Student has received a new ID card (Crimson Card) – previous ID is included in record as still active
  • Library card is barred
    • Check status of user
    • Within user record
      • click on summary folder
        • Status is will say Barred
      • Click on extended information folder will provide reason the individual is barred
  • Student ID Library card number does not have the correct number of digits.
    • A library card number should be 14 digits
    • Once in a while for some reason when printing the Student ID library card barcode number a number is dropped.
    • All Student ID Library card numbers should start with a 2.
    • In these cases the student will need to be issued a new student ID by UITS
      • Student should go to UITS Helpdesk
      • The Access Services Supervisor will contact UITS to alert to the individual problem. Be sure to provide them with: their name, their student ID number, and inform them that the ID did not have the correct number of digits
  • Student has multiple card numbers and the one being used is inactive.
    • Bloomington card services enters a library card number (this is done automatically a student does not have to ask for an ID) that is not the same as the Kokomo student number.
      • Primary card number can not be changed but can make the Kokomo card number active, making both numbers active.
      • NEVER try to change a primary card number.

Workflows directions to activate an Inactive ID

  • Click on Modify User
  • Search for User
  • Open User ID Manager tool
  • Highlight – click on Inactive ID that you want to make active. Using the left arrow move ID number to Active ID list.
  • Click OK button at bottom of frame
  • Click Modify User button at bottom of frame
  • Check to make sure that ID has been activated.
