Library Operations
Library Hours:
It is the responsibility of Student Assistants to know the hours the Library will be open. Hours will vary throughout the year, so refer to the hours posted online for the most accurate information.
Departments:
Because we have other service units working together—Library, UITS, CTLA, and the Writing Center, you need to learn the services that each unit provides and how these departments work together.
UITS Help:
If the UITS Helpdesk consultant is unavailable, Student Assistants should inform users needing assistance to use the phone at the Helpdesk and dial ext. 9508. During business hours, someone in the UITS Support Center will answer the call. During the evenings and weekends, someone from Bloomington will answer the call.
Lost & Found:
Student Assistants who are opening should check the lost and found in the circulation counter drawer. Occasionally users will turn in items they have found in the library. When this happens, notify the Access Services Supervisor. *See Lost & Found for more details.
Applications/Interviews:
The library accepts applications year-round. If the Access Services Supervisor is available, allow the Access Services Supervisor to accept the application. If the supervisor has left for the day, place applications in the supervisor’s mailbox.
When a potential library Student Assistant arrives for an interview, inform the Access Services Supervisor, who will greet the potential employee for the interview.
Courier:
See Request Delivery in the absence of the Access Services Supervisor.
Termination Form:
When a full-time employee leaves IU Kokomo, they must have several departments initial a form. Persons in the Library authorized to initial are the Access Services Supervisor, Library Collections Coordinator, and the Dean of the Library.
