Reserves

Course Reserves:

An instructor may bring materials to the circulation desk to be placed on reserve for their class.

Ask the instructor if they filled out the form online.  If the instructor filled the form out online, place the items in the Access Services Supervisor’s box. If the instructor did not fill out the form online, please provide them with a paper form. Library Reserve Request forms are located online and in the middle drawer. Once completed, place both the form and materials in the Access Services Supervisor’s box.

The Access Services Supervisor will process these items and add them to the Reserves shelf for checkout.

If an instructor wishes to remove items from Reserve, please see the Access Services Supervisor.

Reserves may be searched in IUCAT by clicking on RESERVES, then search by  title (Abnormal Psychology), instructor (Snoddy), course name (Reading, Writing, & Inquiry I), or course number (W131). You can also check the Reserves binder, which is in alphabetical order by instructor last name (unless ALL INSTRUCTORS), then library.

Read more about reserves on the library website:  https://www.iuk.edu/library/faculty/library-reserve.html

NMAT Board Game Collection

This collection is comprised of both commercially-produced board games and games created by IU Kokomo students in Michael Koerner’s NMAT-F 203. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome to use their CrimsonCards to check out a board game to play within the Library. As many of the student-created games are one-of-a-kind, it is imperative that these remain within the Library.

Look for a green insert with a barcode inside each box both when checking out and discharging. An inventory of these games is included in both the Reserves binder and on the reverse of the NMAT Board Game Collection sign. Please be careful not to confuse these board games with those that are available for users near the first floor lounge.

Library Reserves

DVD/Blu-ray Player:

We have two DVD/Blu-ray players available for checkout. These connect via USB and can be used with any computer or laptop.

Headphones:

Library users may check out headphones. They have one barcode that is located on a USB connector box. Some headphones have a microphone, so Student Assistants should ask the user if there is a need for the microphone. The loan period is two hours.

If a user reports that the headphones do not work, the Student Assistant should suggest that the user plug the headphones in before running a program. If this does not resolve the problem, the Student Assistant should test the headphones. Send nonfunctioning headphones to the Access Services Supervisor and explain that the headphones are not working; leave a note indicating this if the Access Services Supervisor is unavailable.

After users have returned the headphones, Student Assistants are to wipe the headphones with a Clorox wipe, and loosely lasso the cords. Do not tightly wrap the cords, as doing so will damage them.

Laptops, Chromebooks & Hotspots:

Any Faculty, Staff, or Student may checkout using their Crimson Card. These checkout for 14 days. Hotspots and Laptops are in their drawers. Chromebooks are in the slots behind the Research Help Desk.

When checking out a laptop or Chromebook, users must connect to eduroam and log in with their IU accounts prior to leaving campus.

When checking out a Chromebook, make sure to include a half-sheet with instructions on using the device. There are additional printed instructions in the top slot where the Chromebooks are stored.

Podcast Kit:

Library users may check out an Alesis podcast kit. There is one barcode to be scanned, on the microphone stand, and five pieces to be counted; headphones; USB cable; microphone; microphone stand, microphone base. This does not include audio editing software. Library users may check out the podcast kits for 24 hours.

Tripod:

Faculty and students may check out a video camera tripod. It has one barcode, and may be checked out for 24 hours.

CAC Keyboards:

Three keyboards with Common Access Card (CAC) readers built-in from UITS.  Students serving in the military require a CAC reader to authenticate for their online training. They are in WorkFlows as NONCIRC, so you will need to press the letter Y in the pop-up box to allow the individual to check out the keyboard.  There is no time limit, but they are due back the same day and are library use only. Be mindful when discharging these that no one incurs a fine.  If they do, provide the Access Services Supervisor their information so that it can be removed.

Electronic Device Chargers:

Library users may check out chargers for their electronic devices. There are wall chargers; a handheld PNY charger; iPhone/ iPad cord; and a USB-to-micro USB cord that is suitable for most Android and many other electronic devices. All of these items are barcoded. The loan period is two hours.

After the handheld charger has been used and returned, the Student Assistant who receives it must plug it in to the wall or computer to recharge it. To recharge the unit, plug the micro USB end of the cord into the device and plug the USB end into a USB slot on a computer or wall charger. To test the level of the charge of the battery, press the button under the charge indication lights.

Flash Drive:

Library users may check out a Verbatim flash drive for up to two hours. Located in Circulation Desk drawer.

White Board Supplies:

Library users may check out a box/bag of white board supplies. Each box/bag contains one eraser and four markers. These boxes are located on the reserve shelf. The supplies may be checked out for three hours, and are available for in-library use only. Notify Access Services Supervisor for replacements.

Nintendo Switch/PlayStation 4:

The console, cords and controllers, etc. are in each console’s travel bag. This bag is located with the other library equipment next to the laptops. Be sure to scan all three barcodes related to each console. Before check-out and after discharging, make sure to check that all of the items are accounted for.

When the console is returned, wipe off the controllers with a Clorox wipe and the screen/console itself with a dry microfiber cloth. The console and controllers are to be updated when you are also updating the laptops. During this time, delete any save/account data that is not ours/owned by us (e.g., any profiles other than the library’s, or any game data from games we do not own). The dock will be updated monthly by the Access Services Supervisor. Notify Access Services Supervisor if any issues arise.
