11 Board Eligibility

Students are ARDMS specialty board eligible when the following criteria has been met:

  • Obtain a minimum of 800 examinations in the designated specialty; a minimum of 350 (Medical Sonography) and 150 (Echocardiography) of these exams need to be “performed” status and total clinical time equals a minimum of 1680 hours.
    • o If a student does not complete the minimum standards listed above, the student must be gainfully employed before a clinical verification can be approved and issued by the Program Director.
    • o If a student successfully passes a specialty board prior to program completion, students must continue to abide by program policies and academic standards. The ARDMS will revoke credentials if the student does not complete their program in good standing.
  • Successfully pass the Physics and Instrumentation Section of the ARDMS
  • Registering for ARDMS Specialty Board Exams (Abdomen, OB/Gyn, Vascular, Echo)
    • Request program completion letter and clinical verification form (if needed*) from the Program Director
      • All program issued ARDMS Clinical Verification Forms must be requested only from the Program Director
    • Register with the ARDMS for the specialty exam
    • Print official university transcript
    • Electronically submit all appropriate documents within 21 days of on-line application
    • Once you receive verification of your documents, schedule your exam per instructions provided by the ARDMS

*Clinical Verification Forms may be obtained from your employer instead of the Program Director.

  • Students may request clinical verification for a full year following completion of the course. After one full year students are expected to obtain a clinical verification from their employing supervisor.

Unethical behavior may adversely affect a student’s eligibility to take the ARDMS and/or ARRT Certification Examinations.
