15 Clinical Rotation Overview
How Sites are Selected
The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for determining appropriate clinical experience assignments for each student. Clinical rotation assignments are based on the ability to meet competencies and provide an adequate number of cases for students to become entry-level sonographers upon graduation. Most clinical sites are within a 1-hour driving radius of the IU Indianapolis campus (see clinical site list for mileage to each site). Students will be assigned to visit and observe numerous clinical sites during their junior year summer semester. Students will then rank the clinical sites they visited. The Program Director and Clinical Coordinator will do their best to place students at their top selected clinical sites for the remainder of the program.
Clinical Hours
Students are responsible for transportation to and from clinical rotations throughout the program. Clinical course hours for weekday assignments are 8:00 am – 4:00 pm but can vary upon clinical site request. Students are allowed 30-minute lunch per 8-hour shift. There will be no lunch break for a half clinical day.
