Clinical Grades

Clinical grades are based on general performance objectives which are in the clinical course syllabus and are provided below. The following aspects will be considered when assigning the clinical grade: performance, attendance and punctuality, daily clinical experience record, adherence to program policy, demeanor and initiative, professionalism, etc.

The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for all evaluation materials. Students are responsible for demonstrating that they have met the minimum clinical objectives in each clinical course.

Appropriate input will be obtained from staff technologists and faculty. Evaluation methods are selected that evaluate the student’s attainment of the objectives for the overall experience and the specific rotation.

Evaluation methods may vary from each institution because of different staff, applicability to the procedures at a given institution, preference of the instructor and the needs of the student. All evaluations, regardless of the type, should be perceived by the student as a reflection of how well the student is performing in the course.

Evaluation methods that may be used include, but are not limited to:

  • Written technical staff evaluations and an average of the clinical objectives met
  • Verbal comments given to the Clinical Coordinator by hospital personnel and department faculty who have worked with the student or seen student images
  • Observations in the clinic by the Clinical Coordinator or department faculty
  • Written comments from the Clinical Coordinator
  • Daily clinical experience records in eValue
  • Formal conferences with Clinical Coordinator or designee
