Canvas design and use

A Canvas course is automatically created for every for-credit course at IUSO. Canvas has many features and tools to enhance your teaching and help make learning activities more transparent to students. Canvas should be used to compliment your in-person class sessions. Information that is discussed or distributed during class should also be available in Canvas. All courses are expected to post course content and collect student work through the assigned Canvas course. Appropriate use of Canvas reduces student questions and stress, allowing you to focus more on teaching the course content. See the Canvas essentials checklist for the foundational tools that all Canvas courses should utilize.

Your course site should be Published to students with an updated Syllabus and Welcome Announcement at least two weeks before classes begin. This is especially important for our first-year courses when students are likely to have lots of questions about your course and the program generally. The Canvas course timeline provides guidance on when to take specific actions in your Canvas site.

Important! If you are scheduled to teach a course but do not see it in your list of Canvas courses 8 weeks prior to the start of the semester, please contact Dr. Candy and Dr. Strackeljahn.
