Song on the Breeze

A cool breeze blows through the camper windows
Through the screens, redwing blackbird’s song billows,
Beyond the fuzzy walls that surround me,
Across the yard to the nuc for queen bee,
Blackbird’s song on the breeze bellows.

The note moves onward, scooped by swallows.
A waft of wretch from the shallows,
Rages and forces their young from a tree.
A rank wind assaults through the camper windows.

The foul air is dying as the wind grows.
Keep it moving, and gliding as the crow goes.
I hope that song on the wind will find me.
Relief moves in over fields and follows
Milkweed’s perfume through the camper windows.
