14 Instructions for adding LHSI to an existing ePortfolio
Most interns will use the template provided in Google Sites. However, if you already have an ePortfolio and want to add LHSI as a section, you will need to follow the instructions below. Throughout the school year, you’ll receive assignments providing instructions and prompts to help you update your ePortfolio website with what you learn during your internship. The assignments reference specific pages and sections of your ePortfolio so it’s important to follow the instructions below carefully or the monthly assignments will be confusing.
These instructions are designed for Google Sites. Most website platforms use similar wording such as pages and sections. You should be able to follow along by looking for those terms even if you don’t use Google Sites.
Open the template and your ePortfolio
- Open a new tab or window. Keep these instructions open. Use Google Chrome for the best editing experience on Google Sites.
- Open a tab or window with Sparky’s ePortfolio: https://sites.google.com/iu.edu/sparkys-eportfolio/home. You’ll use this like a template to copy formatting.
- Open your existing ePortfolio site.
- On the right upper corner click on “Adding to an existing site?” to view what the LHSI page will look like. This will be your page for LHSI reflections.
Add the LHSI page to your existing ePortfolio
- Switch back to the browser window or tab with your existing ePortfolio.
- Add a page. This will be your homepage for LHSI content.
- To add a title page, Click on “Pages” in the upper right corner.
- Click on the “+” sign at the bottom right.
- Select “new page.”
- Title it LHSI Internship or Life-Health Sciences Internship Program. This will be your page for LHSI reflections. It is where you put the prompts you see on the Sparky ePortfolio when you click on “Adding to an existing site?”.
Format Your Pages
Add the prompts to your existing ePortfolio to match the Sparky ePortfolio. Each page and its content should be organized under the appropriate page. By doing this, you can be confident that you will always be ready with the correct prompts each month. The assignments in Canvas will tell you which page to edit each month.
- Your LHSI page should have everything you see on the Adding to an existing site? page of the Sparky ePortfolio.
- Copy and paste each header and section prompts in the correct places on your LHSI page. If you copy/paste from the Sparky site into a Google Site, it should leave the formatting of headers and text sections exactly as they are on Sparky’s site.
- Go to your Home page. Check that your existing homepage and welcome information includes what we have on Sparky’s homepage.
- Copy and paste the homepage prompts onto your existing homepage. The prompts may include information you don’t already have, so add the prompts and check carefully.
By following these steps, you can easily include LHSI information into your current ePortfolio while staying consistent with the LHSI ePortfolio Template. You will delete the prompts after you add your reflections each month.
